35MM FILM, a little less perfect. A LOT MORE interesting.
Alongside digital, I shoot 35mm throughout a wedding day, not to recreate a vintage aesthetic, but because film genuinely sees things differently. The colour, grain, softness and occasional imperfection give it a quality that is incredibly difficult to manufacture.
NO preview.
NO SECOND TAKE.
JUST THE frame.
It particularly comes alive in the bits of a wedding I love most: movement, summer light, slightly chaotic dance floors, people caught completely unaware. There is something inherently cool about a photograph that only existed once.
I really DON’T BELIEVE IT NEEDS TO BE one or the other
DIGITAL + ANALOGUE
Digital gives me the freedom to document a wedding comprehensively, while film makes me slow down and photograph more instinctively. I choose between the two throughout the day depending on the light, the moment and what I think will make the strongest photograph. The result is a gallery where the two sit naturally alongside one another, polished without feeling too perfect, nostalgic without feeling dated.
How it works
-
It’s analogue photography in its original form. Rather than an image being recorded onto a digital sensor, it’s captured onto a physical roll of photographic film. The rolls are then professionally developed and scanned before being added to your final gallery.
-
Because it has character. Film renders colour, light and movement in a way that feels beautifully imperfect. There’s grain. There’s softness. Sometimes there’s motion. And because every roll contains a finite number of photographs, every press of the shutter is considered. It’s less about technical perfection and more about how an image feels.
-
There isn’t a checklist. I’ll reach for my film camera when something about the light, colour, movement or atmosphere makes me think this needs to be on film. That might be portraits in beautiful afternoon light, your tables before everyone sits down, champagne being poured, guests spilling out of the ceremony or the chaos of the dance floor.
-
Your rolls are sent away to a professional film lab to be developed and scanned. Once they’re back with me, I make the final selections and incorporate them into your finished wedding gallery alongside your digital photographs.
-
Absolutely. 35mm film is available as an add-on to my wedding photography collections.
